SINGLE PARENTS SUPPORT GROUP
Several years ago our priest, Ken Kroohs, received one of those common calls asking for financial help. The difference this time was that the call came from a counselor at GTCC. She ran the single parents support group and explained that a women was trying desperately to get her associates degree so she could provide a better life for her child, but her electricity was about to be turned off. The church helped her and has since become involved with this ministry.
The people are screened by the counselor who refers only parents making an honest effort to improve. Over the years St. Christopher's has helped several parents. In one case the mother could not afford a real bed for her daughter and social services was about to remove the child. A congregation member had a bed in the garage they wanted to get rid of. .... need meets resource!
The ministry is an "on-call" situation. As needs are made known they are shared with the congregation.
