EASTER 2007
The week just prior to Easter, known as "Holy Week", is the busiest weeks in the church year. Beginning with Palm Sunday or the Sunday of the Passion, we remember many of the key events in this last week of Jesus' life.
Please join with us as often as possible !
Palm Sunday (the Sunday of the Passion) We begin this week by the blessings of palm branches and reading together the account of Jesus' arrest, trial and crucifixion. We stop, as the disciples did, without continuing on (yet) to the resurrection.
services at 9 AM and 5 PM (contemporary) (nursery available at both)
Special celebration: This year on Palm Sunday evening, we will also hold a special celebration marking the start of renovations to the parish house. Join us at 6:30 pm and stay for the pot luck supper afterwards.
Passover (Seder) supper -- Jesus' last supper was a Jewish Passover meal. We celebrate that meal using portions of the Jewish traditions.
Tuesday, 6:30 PM.
To help us know how many people to prepare for, please either call (869-5311) or email us.
Maundy Thursday -- Several important things happened during that last day Jesus was with the disciples. The term "Maundy" comes from the root word for "commandment" thereby reminding us that Jesus said: "A new commandment I give you. That you shall love one another as I have loved you." Jesus also washed His disciples' feet to illustrate the concept of servanthood. Then he was arrested and went to die.
The Maundy Thursday service is one of the most spiritually powerful services in the church year.
Thursday, 7 PM (nursery available)
Good Friday -- Tradition records that Jesus breathed His last at 3 pm on that Friday. (The term "Good Friday" comes from old English for "God's Friday") At 3 pm we follow the "Stations of the Cross", also known as "the Way of the Cross". Mel Gibson's movie, The Passion of the Christ is essentially a movie account of this service. In it we move through 14 stations. At each place we stop and remember some event in Jesus' journey to the cross.
Friday, 3 PM
Saturday Easter Service -- This Easter service with contemporary music begins in the darkness we left on Maundy Thursday. Using scripture, music and lighting we celebrate the awareness of Jesus' resurrection.
Saturday, 8 PM (nursery available)
Blood Drive -- On Saturday morning (10-2) there will also be a blood drive at St. Christopher's. OK -- it sounds a bit corny but this is the weekend we remember Jesus gave His life for us. Can we give a pint of blood? (Who says we only have half the guilt?)
Sunday Easter Service -- Through a traditional Easter service with choir and organ, we celebrate Jesus' resurrection. A tradition at St. Christopher's is to follow this service with an Easter egg hunt on the front lawn!
Sunday, 9 AM (nursery available)
